Students Shine at Science Olympiad Competition

Northley Middle School competed in the Science Olympiad Regional competition at Neumann University on Wednesday with 25 other middle schools. Northley scored 15th place overall and placed in the Top Ten in five events: 10th place in Air Trajectory, 10th place in Bottle Rocket, 6th place in Bridge Building, 6th place in Meteorology, and 6th place in Scrambler.  

Congratulations to our students who have been preparing since October for this competition. The students worked hard and are already looking forward to next year!

The Sun Valley Science Olympiad team also competed at the Pennsylvania Southeastern Regional Competition at Neumann University. Out of 34 high school teams Sun Valley finished 12th. They had strong finishes in a number of events including a 5th place in Wind Power, 6th places in Hydrogeology and Write It Do It, an 8th place in It’s About Time, a 9th place in Wright Stuff and 11th places in Air Trajectory, Bridge Building and Green Generation. The team worked very hard this year and will continue to work towards the ultimate goal of going to the state competition next year. The following students studied with great intensity for many months: senior Erik Flickinger; juniors Artricia Nou, Monika Kariuki, Zoe Rogers, Issi Glatts, Marissa Boland, Liz Luoma, Janice Park, Brittany Hinderhofer, Hayley Moore and James McCullough; sophomores Ryan Hayes, Sumaiya Begum, Nathan Manero, Emily Dawson, Shelly Lowe and Avery Louise; freshmen Rayming Liu, Connor McDermond and Ryan Costigan.
